Please remove pid file manually, then start mysqld.

If you turned power off it is expected mysqld had no time to remove pid file.

My SQL manager or server PID file could not be found! Manager of pid-file quit without updating [email protected]:~$ /sbin/service mysqld status ERROR!

Manager of pid file quit without updating file

So I was working at home over the weekend using My SQL on my Mac Book running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), put my computer to sleep then came in to the office this morning and opened it back up.

At one point I had to restart My SQL (which up to this point was running fine), and received this error: After a good 20 minutes spent on Google trying various things (hunting down the mysql.plugin file to verify its permissions, removing my file, verifying my file was getting erased, etc), I finally stumbled upon the answer: My SQL was still running under a different hostname.

The file in the mysql data folder is gone and mysql just wont behave without it.

The mysql.socket is no longer visible in /tmp eventhough mysql thinks it is.

Install all components and restart, now you should have mysql server running again but now you will need to migrate the old data to the new.
